McAfee SpamKiller for Microsoft Exchange Small Business can help to reduce costs that are associated with spam by scanning incoming email as it reaches the Microsoft Exchange 2000 server. Once scanned, the spam email can be quarantined to a server-based junk mail folder, or into the user's junk mail folder. By detecting the spam, you will prevent your users having to deal with the messages, helping them to increase their productivity.

Features

Default Rules
The SpamKiller product family is powered by the McAfee SpamAssassin™ engine. SpamAssassin utilizes a rating system that scores email based on a series of tests. It catches more than 95% of all spam email, while giving a very low false-positive identification rate of less than 0.05%.

Scoring System
The SpamAssassin scoring system is based on an extensive rule set, which determines if a particular email message is spam. The rules are run against every email and each rule is associated with a score, positive or negative. Rules with negative scores indicate attributes of legitimate mail; rules with positive scores indicate attributes of unsolicited mail. When added together, these scores give each email an "overall spam rating".

5 Levels of Protection
  • Integrity Analysis - SpamKiller examines the header, layout and organization of each email message, to identify the common characteristics of spam.
  • Heuristic detection - A series of internal tests determine the likelihood of a message being spam, and each test carries a score to help reduce false positives.
  • Content filtering - This functionality identifies key words or phrases that appear in an email, which could indicate that the message is spam.
  • Black and white lists - Set the standards at the server-level to determine spam email by using the global whitelist and blacklist settings. Individuals may supplement the rule set at the desktop by defining their own whitelist and blacklist entries.
  • Self-tuning - SpamAssassin learns the characteristics of the email you receive. It adjusts the "overall spam rating" for new messages, when sent by a known sender.

Tiered Routing
When spam is detected, three locations may be chosen for quarantining messages. Depending upon the score the email receives, messages may be quarantined in the user's inbox, the user's inbox junk mail folder, or the system junk mail folder. This reduces false-positives by allowing users to check low-rate spam.

Detailed Reporting
SpamKiller provides detailed reports that are accessed by the administrator via Outlook. Reports show which rules the SpamAssassin engine has triggered, and their overall spam score. These reports enable administrators to see which emails are being flagged as spam. Filtering rules can then be modified or created.

Synchronization with Exchange Contacts
SpamKiller for Microsoft Exchange Small Business automatically synchronizes to the end-user's Outlook Contacts folder. Once synchronized, SpamKiller maintains a default personal whitelist for each user. Additions or deletions from the Contacts folder will be automatically updated in the user's whitelist.

Editing Rules
Add to the default rules using the administrative interface. Personalizing the rules in each organization gives administrators the ability to fine-tune systems according to their needs.
